At some point during the year you’re going to get sick. I remember my first year of college I got sick with one of the worst cases of the cold out there. The worst part about the situation was that I got it right before finals. I could barely function and did not want to put any effort towards studying. Being on my own for the first time, I did not know how to deal with this. Fortunately everything worked out okay thanks to the following tips I’ll explain in this post.
Just like your mom might suggest, eating soup or some sort of broth will definitely help you feel better. I remember specially when I was sick, I went to buy some ramen because I literally didn’t have the energy to make any. Eating that bowl of ramen and then sipping on the extra broth afterwards made a world of difference. After eating the soup I gained enough energy to at least get myself somewhat prepared for the exams I had coming up.
Of course the soup you eat doesn’t have to be ramen, you could eat virtually any type. Just make sure it’s warm. If you find that you don’t really have an appetite, you could even buy broth at the grocery store and sip on that throughout the day.
Reschedule (if you can)
When sick, you’ll need plenty of resting time. Naturally you might even be more tired than usual. Make sure that if you’re sick during a busy week to take as much time off as possible. While this might seem impossible there is always something that you don’t have to do.
It could be taking time off work, or not attending an early morning class. You’ll need the rest. Just make sure to catch up the next week on whatever you missed out on.
As soon as you feel a cold coming on, go get supplies right away! In fact even if you’re not sick now you need to buy supplies for when it does happen later on.
When I first got sick I waited until I absolutely knew I had a cold to go get some supplies, this was a mistake. I had a sore throat, no energy and my ear began aching. Having all of these symptoms while waiting in line at was not pleasant.
Despite me feeling terrible at the store I still managed to get everything I needed. I got; Cough drops, Cough syrup, Advil and tissues. All of these things we’re specific to the type of cold I had, though they are still staples considering that having a cough or sore throat is common with most colds.
Being sick in College
Whilst dealing with this, the most important thing to remember is to that you’re only human. You can only do so much during the day and you shouldn’t feel bad about not achieving all that you’ve planned to do. Resting and recovering should be your two top priorities when sick , otherwise it’ll just take longer to recover.
